Report of International Webinar
Milad-E-Sheref Memorial College, Kayamkulam, through its Department of Botany in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized an International Webinar titled “Characterization of Bioactive Compounds Derived from Marine Algae” on 19th December 2025 at 7.00 PM via Google Meet.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Sri. Jijo C Varghese, Head, Department of Botany, who highlighted the importance of marine algae in modern scientific research and emphasized the relevance of the webinar for students and faculty members.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) A. Muhammed Thaha, Principal, M.S.M College. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of the Department of Botany and IQAC in organizing an international-level academic programme and encouraged students to actively engage in research-oriented learning.
The Inaugural Address was given by Dr. S. Amina, Educational Secretary, M.S.M Trust. She formally inaugurated the webinar and stressed the significance of interdisciplinary research and the role of higher education institutions in fostering scientific curiosity.
Felicitation addresses were delivered by Dr. Zameer K.H, Vice Principal, M.S.M College, and Dr. Anil Kumar K.M, IQAC Coordinator, M.S.M College. Speakers congratulated the organizing team and highlighted the academic value of such international webinars in enhancing institutional quality and global exposure.
The technical session was handled by the invited speaker, Dr. Divya Nair, Post Doctoral Associate, UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester, Massachusetts. Her lecture provided an in-depth overview of marine algae as a rich source of bioactive compounds. She elaborated on various characterization techniques and discussed the characterisation of compounds particularly from the Ulva species and its applications in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The session was highly informative and interactive, followed by an engaging discussion with participants.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Sruthy K. Pillai, Faculty, Department of Botany, who expressed gratitude to the speaker, dignitaries, organizers, and participants for making the webinar a grand success.
The International Webinar was well attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students. The programme significantly contributed to academic enrichment and awareness about emerging trends in marine bioactive research.

International yoga day celebration
On the occasion of International Yoga day, Department of Botany in association with Department of Biotechnology and IQAC,M.S.M. College organized a program on Tuesday, 24th June 2025, at 10:30 AM. The program, held at the Arabic Department Seminar Hall, was inaugurated by the College Principal, Dr. Muhammed Thaha. Sri.Anil S, Sub inspector of police and yoga trainer inaugrated the program,Dr. Farook S,Associate professor and Head, Department of Arabic offered felicitation.Teachers, non-teaching staff, and students from both departments of the college participated in the event. Various asanas were demonstrated by the Sri. Anil and a mediation session. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Smt. Fouzia Hilal, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany.
