REPORT ON CROCHET CERTIFICATE COURSE
Department of Economics in Association with Women’s Club
MSM College Kayamkulam
The Department of Economics, in association with the Women’s Club of MSM College Kayamkulam, organised the inauguration and first session of the Crochet Certificate Course on 9 September 2026 (Wednesday) at the Golden Jubilee Hall, MSM College Kayamkulam.
The programme was organised with the objective of encouraging creativity, skill development, and self-employment opportunities among students. The course also aims to introduce students to the basics of crochet making and help them develop a useful vocational skill.
The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by the welcome address delivered by Sri. Sathish Soman, HOD, Department of Economics. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Muhammed Thaha A, Principal, MSM College Kayamkulam. The course was formally inaugurated by Dr. Manoj T R, Syndicate Member, University of Kerala.
The inauguration was followed by felicitation addresses by Dr. S. Amina, Educational Secretary, MSM Trust; Dr. Anil Kumar, IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Jyothi, Council Secretary. Dr. Deepa Gopal proposed the vote of thanks.
Following the inaugural session, a practical Crochet Making Session was conducted by Ms. Shalima Shajahan, Instructor. The session provided participants with an opportunity to learn the basic techniques of crochet making through practical demonstrations and hands-on activities. The students participated enthusiastically and showed great interest in acquiring the new skill.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Nizia Ameer, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics. Ms. B. Sajitha, HOD, Department of English and Convenor, Women’s Club, served as the Convenor.
The programme was a valuable initiative towards skill development, creativity, entrepreneurship, and empowerment of students. The enthusiastic participation of the students made the inaugural session and crochet-making class a successful and meaningful programme.

Report on International Women’s Day Celebration
The Women’s Club of M. S. M. College, Kayamkulam, celebrated International Women’s Day on 9th March 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation from students and faculty members.
The programme began with a formal inaugural session. Dr. Lekha S. Babu, Senior Faculty and Assistant Professor of Malayalam, inaugurated the function and delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of women empowerment and awareness. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Muhammed Thaha, Principal, who emphasized the role of education in achieving gender equality. The gathering was welcomed by B. Sajitha, Women’s Club Coordinator.
The programme was enriched by the presence of distinguished guests of honour: Dr. Sujatha Issac, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Ebenezer Hospital, Kayamkulam; Smt. Bidhu Vidhyadharan, Nursing Officer, Government Taluk Hospital, Kayamkulam; and Smt. Sreevidya V., Family Counsellor, DCRC, Kayamkulam.
Dr. Sujatha Issac delivered an informative talk on female health and well-being. She addressed various health concerns, clarified doubts raised by the audience, and promoted sustainable menstrual practices. Smt. Bidhu Vidhyadharan spoke on lifestyle diseases and the importance of maintaining healthy habits, offering an engaging and motivational session. Smt. Sreevidya V. discussed women empowerment, sharing valuable insights drawn from her professional experience as a family counsellor.
All the sessions were informative and beneficial to the participants.
Felicitation was offered by Dr. S. Amina, Educational Secretary, MSM Group of Institutions, and Agnes, College Union Member and Lady Representative.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Nizia Ameer, Assistant Professor of Economics.
The event was followed by cultural programmes presented by students and teachers, which added vibrancy to the celebration.
Awareness Class on the Use of Menstrual Cup
An awareness class on the use of menstrual cups was organized by the Women’s Club in association with the Haritha Keralam Mission – a comprehensive, participatory development initiative launched by the Kerala Government to create a “Green Kerala” on 20/02/2026 at 10.30 am at the Seminar Hall, Department of Malayalam.
The programme was chaired by Smt. B. Sajitha, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, and Coordinator of the Women’s Club, M. S. M. College, Kayamkulam. Dr. Deepa K. Gopal delivered the welcome speech. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Lekha S. Babu, Head of the Department of Malayalam. The awareness session was led by Ms. Aswathy Krishnan, Block Coordinator of the Haritha Keralam Mission.
The session focused on promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and educating students about the proper use, health benefits, and environmental advantages of menstrual cups. The resource person highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable menstrual practices as part of environmental responsibility.
A total of 103 students participated in the programme. Menstrual cups were distributed to the participants at the end of the session,
